I graduated from NZ's first Clown School in 1983, having studied movement improvisation, circus skills, mime, street theater, invisible theater, stage definitions, audience dynamics, Clown - social and literary history and administration and structure of production.
Adjacently performing solo and as a member of "Playspace Theater", a five piece modern clown / mime troupe led by Alan Clay. We performed and taught in secondary schools and twice toured theaters nationally.
I then formed "Antigravity Theater" with two others and the next two years were spent in a similar vein, teaching, touring and experimenting with comic video.
Following this, two years were spent as a member of 'Stalker Stilt Theater', impersonating dark archetypes for the masses and gaining a valuable stilt movement vocabulary.
I accepted an invitation to visit Japan. Touring the country comprehensively over three years, working independently and for a range of corporate clients.
Long term contracts with Japan's largest chain of Department stores, "Marui".
A mercenary clown also for Mitsubishi, Coca-cola, Panasonic and Suntory. Japan gave me a site specific dimension, one days work might be to perform in a stairwell for a retired starlets 21st birthday party, another to perform a three minute dance piece midfield at Tokyo Dome.
From a guest season at a Filipino Circus in Nagasaki with two dozen clinically insane poodles, a demonic chimpanzee and a sociopathic elephant, to the Osaka World Expo, where the on site populations exceeded one million on weekends and holidays.
I moved to Europe initially performing in Covent Garden and Carnaby St, progressing through agents to working further afield at venues including "Ku", in Spain, Europe's largest nightclub.
The Edinburgh International Theater Festival and six seconds in "Far and Away', a Ron Howard/Tom Cruise vehicle.
I also spent time performing and studying Mime in Paris (Gustav Menzies) and additionally performed in Germany, Iceland, Holland and Denmark.
Additionally I have developed a range of site specific pieces that have seen me suspended from buildings, in beds in department stores, roaming a huge postal sorting hanger as a large envelope and entertaining as a large framed portrait.
I periodically hold classes in Modern Clown and Mime, I produce short stage and film pieces and am at present in collaboration in preparation for rehearsal for new work in film, stage and amongst architecture.
Additionally
I can cast produce and direct utilizing 20 years experience with some of the worlds most talented eccentrics
I can conceptually coach, consult and confer
I can design websites and am especially good with copy
I am a ruthless yet approachable stage manager
My mind is my asset, my experience is my qualification
and I will rent my mind should the project be suitably absurd.
I am essentually a modern clown who's specialty is the design of whimsey
